At the end of season 2007/2008 the South East Queensland branches were informed that the current structure of carnivals would be changing and SLSQ would be taking over the administration and logistics of the Oceans Assault Series. As a result of this decision the following occurred;
- General Members (i.e. non elite) did not have a competitive surf sports series available to them.
- A stream of income that branches rely on was effectively being taken away from them with no compensation.
- A window was created in the carnival calendar that Branches would be able to fill to run an event for members.
It is the role of the Branches to ensure appropriate and effective programs for members in an effort to recruit and retain members.
Season 2008/2009 saw the inaugural Sizzler Oceans 38 Battle of the Beaches commence with resounding success and support from the clubs.
At the conclusion of the three year agreement (10/11) the three South East QLD branches met with a view to staging events in each Branch throughout season 2011/2012.
The meeting was successful and for the first time, the Sunshine Coast Branch became a part of the "Oceans 38 group" and an event was staged on the Sunshine Coast
We have continued our relationship with the QSRL and there are two events staged each season – Young Guns and Best of the Best under the Sizzler banner.
In season 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 we plan to continue the current structure of carnivals with one event in each Branch. In 2013/2014 three events will be hosted with two on the Gold Coast and one on the Sunshine Coast (venues and dates to be determined).
Our partnership with Australian Surf Rowers League (QLD) will continue with 2 events to be hosted – one on the Gold Coast and one on the Sunshine Coast (surf boats only).
